Occupational Health Nurse - Sharon Elson

I work within Gisborne Hospital and am responsible for the pre-employment health screening of all new staff at TDH. I promote vaccination programmes for example hepatitis B, influenza, measles and whooping cough and encourage health promotion within the organisation. This includes but is not limited to the work place challenge where departments compete against each other to record the most minutes of physical activity within a month, and have the opportunity to try different activities.

Health and safety is a large component of my role, which encompasses audits, incident investigation, organisation of manual handling training, staff injury management and return to work plans.

Co-ordination of the employee assistance programme (EAP), work station assessments and working collaboratively with key stake holders i.e. ACC, Department of Labour, Sport Gisborne.
